New SH 121 overpasses from McKinney to DFW Airport will open on Saturday

Northbound frontage road traffic opens Saturday; southbound traffic opens on Sunday.

— The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and contractor J.D. Abrams will complete construction of two overpasses on the new SH 121 lanes just north of DFW airport this weekend.

Construction crews will begin switching northbound frontage road traffic onto the new mainlanes this Saturday afternoon. The southbound traffic will then be switched over Sunday afternoon.

This $26 million project will greatly relieve congestion at the Freeport and Grapevine Mills/Sandy Lake intersections. “Drivers will now have uninterrupted travel all the way from McKinney at US 75 to the DFW airport and on to Fort Worth,” said Dallas District Engineer Bill Hale.

The next phase of construction is expected to begin summer 2010. When completed, this two mile segment of SH 121 from DFW north to the split at SH 121 toll road and SH 121 business will have five mainlanes and three fontage road lanes in each direction.

Am I supposed to be happy for ease of transport, or pissed off b/c it's yet another toll road?

Or am I just supposed to point out how much of someone's budget it shouldn't be?

Woe is Doyle.

didn't we always? what do they mean by uninterrupted? there won't be traffic? because you still will have the traffic backup at NW Hwy and a little at 35, right?

Did you drive SH 121 from McKinney to Carrollton/Lewisville before there was any improvement to it? Especially during any kind of rush hour, those lights owned you. OWNED you.

I've been driving it for 4 or 5 years. A couple of the lights were pretty bad. But from what it's been in the past 6 months to a year I don't know how much 'improvement' there can be.

How about that eternal series of time syncs in front of Grapevine Mills? You could read and understand Paradise Lost during those.

Jesus - Spanish as in "The Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria / Columbus / Soccer Riots" Spanish. Man you ARE new to this oppressor role.

I just wonder if this "Open" announcement is like the last 3 or four where it's "Open" for about 48 hours before the next wave of construction reduces the whole 10 miles to a parking lot again.

Scott Doyle, says:

Just sayin', I think their definition of "uninterrupted" = no lights. Not necessarily no slowing down where major roads intersect.

I was wondering how lights would own someone.
