Chicago Fire 3, FC Dallas 1
FC Dallas vs. Chicago Fire postgame interview (3-21-09)
In their home opener, FC Dallas drew more than 15,000 fans, who witnessed a potential goal of the year followed by three unanswered Chicago goals, giving the Hoops a loss start the season.
In the 9th minute of what is known as the Brimstone Cup (when FC Dallas matches up with the Chicago Fire; FC Dallas used to be the Dallas Burn, hint hint), forward Kenny Cooper scored a gift from the gods. From almost 60 yards out, Cooper let a shot rip and caught the keeper off guard, putting the ball in back of the net.
Until the 38th minute, the score stood at 1-0 in Dallas' favor. From there, however, the Fire took command of the match. Justin Mapp scored the equalizer, and Brian McBride finished a penalty kick in the 51st minute. Finally, Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored in stoppage time to give Chicago the 3-1 win.
