Coppell receives “Tree City USA” certification; plans Arbor Day festivities
Plus, the kid winners of the Arbor Day poster contest show off their stuff.
Brad Reid, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Coppell, says that this is the 14th straight year that the city has been certified as a "Tree City USA." Which implies that the city has a "tree department," a community tree ordinance, a comprehensive forestry program and an Arbor Day proclamation and observance.
The Texas Forest Service co-sponsors the program and makes recommendations to the Tree City certification board.
On April 4 at 10:45 a.m., the city will celebrate Arbor Day as part of Clean Coppell Earthfest 2009 by hosting a public gathering at Coppell Town Center (255 Parkway Blvd.), where Micah Pace, Texas Forest Service Urban Forester, will recognize the City of Coppell as a Tree City USA.
At the same event, this year's Arbor Day Poster Contest winners will be honored. The poster contest was sponsored by Keep Coppell Beautiful and the Elementary Art Teachers. The 2009 winners are:
City of Coppell Winner:
Lea Balcerzak (Austin Elementary School)
School Winners:
Delaney Dendy (Cottonwood Creek Elementary School)
Catie Hiller (Lakeside Elementary School)
