Black.Page

Meet Dallas musician, poet, marketer and publisher, Black.Page. She wants to introduce you to a new magazine debuting in April, and tell you the positive moves that are happening in Dallas for independent musicians. Below the interview is a track from her latest musical offering.

Mandrake FM: You have a new magazine coming on the scene April 1(on my birthday, no less!) called NuBN Magazine. Describe the magazine’s focus or beat.

Black.Page: NuBN is an Organic Approach to Urban Culture. So often the things that we as soulful people call our own are taken and sold back to us. I decided that way was so played out and phony. NuBN Magazine and its faithful team work hard to educate our readers about artist that may not get the mass exposure generated via major record labels and their well oiled machine. We spotlight visual artist, poets, bands, business owners, and so much more.

Mandrake FM: Being involved in with Dallas scene, what’s happening here that’s inspiring in terms of promotion of local independent artists?

Black.Page: There are several avenues available in Dallas for an artist who have a grind and hustle about their craft. NuBN Magazine, in conjunction with Brown Mood Consulting, will be teaming up to bring a host of wonderful events. Check out our event calender on myspace.com/nubnmagonline - ADD US TO YOUR TOP FRIENDS!

Mandrake FM: You’ve allowed me to share the single, “Head 2 Tha Sky” with listeners of my other podcast, Mandrake Society Radio. What’s your latest music project available for purchase, and where can we get it?

Black.Page: Right now “black.WHOLE tha mixtape” is available for sale on myspace.com/blackpage - it’s 22 tracks of soul, spoken word, conscience hip.hop, and more. There are so nice collabs on this one too; Big Pharoah from Street Tribe and Rage.

The new mixtape is quickly approaching completion, so everybody stay tuned for “VORTEX tha mixtape” dropping this summer!

I would also like to thank you brotha for your support. It is very appreciated!

Mandrake FM: What fellow artists/musicians are grabbing your ears lately?

Black.Page: Yo check out Street Tribe's new joint - Street Tribe vs. tha FEDz - it’s one that you will put in your classic stack & PJae - this sista is Grown Soul. Oh one more check out Battery 5. They are from ATL and these brothas are about business.

Mandrake FM: Where are you playing live next?

Black.Page: Catch me at the EVOLUTION of SPOKENWORD (April 23, 2009 @ Absinthe Lounge) hosted by the Audacious one! And I always post my shows on my MySpace.

Enjoy Black.Page performing the space-inspired, house-flavored “Head 2 Tha Sky.” Hear more tracks at her MySpace Page.
