Recap of wine tasting at Calais Winery in Dallas
Deep Ellum has a beacon of light at the corner of Commerce and S. Walton in Calais Winery. Benjamin Calais' eponymous winery shines brightly and, from the turnout, draws in a diverse crowd.
A mix of Deep Ellum and downtown locals popped in and out during the evening. Calais obviously made an impression at Savor Dallas because we talked with new fans who tasted his wines at the recent food and wine event.
He obviously has both a passion for his work and teaching patrons about what they taste. And they love to listen as he held a captive audience at the bar for hours.
It was all about the wine at this tasting. Calais poured generously from his own wines and the featured Malbecs. What normally takes us less time turned into two hours of tasting and chatting with other guests. We'll be back for the La Cuvee Principale 2007, an unoaked chardonnay, and the complex Mendel Malbec as long as supplies last.
Recommendation: STOP BY FOR A GLASS OR BOTTLE
