Dallas considers regulating “booting”
As if Deep Ellum wasn't having enough problems getting back on its feet, the parking situation in the area is actually getting worse. It's gotten to the point where parking almost guarantees a ticket or a boot. (I have paid for parking and still been ticketed.) There have been complaints that some patrons have been booted even after paying for parking or donning a monthly parking pass. With a cost of $100 to have the boot removed, this definitely turns people off from wanting to visit the area. As a result, Dallas City Council is considering an ordinance that would regulate the private companies that use the boots. The ordinance would require the companies to provide electronic pay stations or attendants to provide a receipt to patrons.

My question is: Why didnt the city get off their butts beforehand? These parking lot "attendents" have been running loose for too long, not to mention they've been coming up with excuses to boot people accordingly(i.e. being out for 2 hours, walking the neighborhood, ect..). Another reason this is occuring is the lot owners are afraid of losing money once the DART Green Line goes live this fall, which is a clear and present threat to their current business model.
I think the only way to fix this is for the city to buy up the lots and build parking structures on them, making them free on weekends, like sundance square in downtown ft. worth.
