The Foreigner at The Richardson Theatre Centre is an experiment in cooperation that benefits one and all by teaming the talents and resources of the Richardson Theatre Centre, Labyrinth Theatre Friends, and Wildflour Texas Cafe.
The Richardson Theatre Centre will be performing The Foreigner by Larry Shue from March 27 - April 19. Larry Shue's play is about an Englishman who discovers many secrets while visiting an old Georgia lodge under the guise of a foreigner who knows no English. The production is rooted in the great traditions of British farce comedy, but it exhibits a uniquely American spin -- an errant evangelist, a pregnant heiress, a dim-witted brother, a Brit demolition expert, a sweet old proprietor and klutzy Klan visitors
Kevin Ash (the artistic director of the now closed Labyrinth Theatre) will be making his debut with the Richardson Theatre Centre as the Reverend David Marshall Lee. “Working with Kevin has been such a treat” said artistic director Rachael Lindley. “Kevin has acted in many professional theatres including some in New York so he brings with him a wealth of experience.”
“The Richardson Theatre Centre decided since Labyrinth lost its space and had no place at the moment to finish their season to extend an invitation to complete their season with us” Rachael Lindley explained “The Richardson Theatre Centre will be honoring Labyrinth season tickets during the run of The Foreigner. “
“Kevin Ash and the Labyrinth friends have been so helpful in producing The Foreigner and we are so appreciative of the relationship we have built with this talented group of individuals.” said Richardson resident Ted Strahan whose stars in The Foreigner and is also a member of the board of the Richardson Theatre Centre. “We are looking forward to helping them with the Fantasticks” the final show of Labyrinth‘s 2009 season
Another partnership that is new for the Richardson Theatre Centre is the "Dinner and a play" offering in conjunction with Wildflour a Texas Café. “This is an experiment for both groups that we hope becomes a regular institution. For just $25.00 our patrons can eat a sumptuous buffet style dinner from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and stroll across the parking lot and attend the hilarious comedy at 7:30 p.m., The Foreigner by Larry Shue. Dinner and a play for $25.00? That is the one of the best entertainment deals in town!” said director Rachael Lindley. “I challenge anyone to find a better entertainment deal in the area.”
Dates available for dinner and show will be Thursday April 2, 9 and 16. Dinner service at Wildflour a Texas Café will be available from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. the play will begin 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be arranged for dinner service by calling at least 24 hours in advance at 972-699-1130.
