John Paul II High School Cardinal Belles win national title
The Cardinal Belles brought the first National title home to John Paul II High School, winning their entire division and being named H.T.E. National Small Team Champions. The competition took place March 6-7, 2009, at Northwest High School in Justin, Texas. The team brought home awards for Small Team National Champions, Military Champions and Kick Champions categories. They also received the Team Sweepstakes and an award for Outstanding Technique.
In addition, the Cardinal Belle officers Dance Officers, Captain Teresa Sinacola, Lt. Brittany Siwald and Lt. Bridget Ritzman, brought home the following awards: National Officer Sweepstakes and first runner-up in Officer Modern.
Out of nearly 100 soloists, only eleven finalists were selected. Of those eleven, three were from John Paul II High School. All three ladies landed 4th and 5th runners-up within their divisions. Sophomores Katy Hunter and Haley Moninger, who competed in the 9th /10th Division, respectively placed 4th and 5th runners-up. Senior Laura Taylor was 4th runner-up in the 11th/12th division competition and her routine was choreographed by senior and Cardinal Belle Captain, Teresa Sinacola.
“I’m really proud of our team. They worked really hard and we faced some tough competition. We have a lot to be proud of this year,” said Sinacola.
JPIIHS and the Cardinal Belles look forward to performing these winning performances at their second Cardinal Belles Annual Spring Showcase on May 1, 2009. This year’s showcase is themed, “Let’s Dance!” and will feature the Belle’s award-winning routines as well as new performances which were independently choreographed by JPIIHS’ own Cardinal Belle Officers. Other guest JPIIHS student performances are the Cardinal Cheerleaders, Musical Theatre, Dance I, II and III classes, the Belle’s Moms and a special number brought to the community by the Belle Boys.
