McKinney Boyd High School yearbook wins top national award

0

McKinney Boyd High School’s 2008 yearbook, The Bronco, won the Gold Crown award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, which is the national organization’s top award. Only 10 high school yearbooks in the nation received this honor.

The McKinney Boyd yearbook staff earned this honor with the school’s second edition of the yearbook, which covered the 2007-2008 school year.

“This is a great honor for the students who worked so hard on this book. Everyone is especially proud to have achieved this with the school’s second volume,” yearbook adviser Rochelle Palmberg said. “The editors did a wonderful job developing a theme for the book, and they made sure it chronicled the year in an interesting and visually appealing way.”

The editors-in-chief for the book were Danny Moreland and Laura Shaheen, both 2008 graduates. Design editor, Mark Moreland, also a 2008 graduate, also contributed to the design and theme, “For Real.”

CSPA announced its top awards for scholastic publications at the 85th annual Scholastic Convention in New York City.

This year, 1,795 magazines, newspapers, yearbooks and online publications of the current CSPA members were eligible to enter the Crown Awards. Judging for printed publications took place at Columbia University from December 13-15, 2008 by the Board of Crown Judges. Publications were judged on writing/editing, design, content, concept, photography, art and graphics.

In addition, individual students won Gold Circle Awards in four categories.

A second place award went to 2008 graduates Krista Patapoff and Leslie Quisenberry for Advertising Spread Design. For Title Page Design, Danny and Mark Moreland received third place, as did 2008 graduate Morgyn Bailey for Organization Writing. A certificate of merit award went to senior Teresa Chapman in Sports Feature Writing.
