AFI Dallas sneak preview: audio interview with the filmmakers of Sugar

Filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck teamed to make the gritty film drama Half Nelson in 2006, for which star Ryan Gosling received a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

For their next feature project they've delivered a real home run of a film treatment centering on the trials and triumphs of a young Dominican baseball player with big league dreams who travels to America to test his mettle in the minor league proving grounds.

Anna and Ryan visited Dallas as part of a whirlwind promotional tour for the film just before the start of the AFI Dallas film fest, where their movie will screen as part of the festival's Premiere Series on Wednesday, April 1.

We'll post a review of the film when it opens in regular release on April 24 at the Dallas Angelika; for now, kick back and listen up as Anna and Ryan sit down with a quartet of local film reviewers to talk about Sugar; then chuckle disdainfully as they throw me a curve ball when I try to convince them that the KC logo used on their movie uniforms looks just like the "real" one.
