HDNet's HDNet World Report, the network's award winning weekly news program has been recognized with a first place award at the 75th annual National Headliner Awards, sponsored by The Press Club of Atlantic City, N.J.

The program's award was in the Health/Science Reporting category for HDNet's, "Bill Gates and the Indian Eunuchs." Correspondent Paul Beban reported from India for the story, which was produced by Kira Kay and Jason Maloney.

The story examined a very unlikely partnership that is fighting AIDS in India. Through his charitable foundation, billionaire Bill Gates is funding a group of 'Aravanis' - Indian men who undergo ritual castration - to do frontline health and social work in the rural Indian countryside.

"Once again, our staff at World Report outperforms many of the bigger players in the news game and wins a National Headliner," said Mark Cuban, president and co-founder of HDNet. "I'm proud of the work that they do and of the in-depth stories that we present to our viewers every week on World Report."

HDNet World Report and Beban also received two second place awards, the first in the Business & Consumer Reporting category for "India Rising," a co-production with NOW on PBS and another in the Environmental Reporting category for "Payatas: The Dark Side of Economic Growth."

The National Headliner Awards program is one of the oldest and largest annual contests recognizing journalistic merit in the communications industry. This is the second year in a row that World Report has been awarded a National Headliner; last year it was the recipient of two awards.

HDNet World Report airs every Tuesday at 9:00 ET as a part of the network's News and Documentary programming night. The award-winning episode is available for download via iTunes.
