Firewater doused, Trees may reopen (again)

According to the Observer, Firewater Bar and Grill, the cover band destination of the Southwest, will have its final show Tuesday night. The club fell into some legal trouble and has been predicting a fall for sometime, but was expected to last until June. Shows booked through the next couple of months will be diverted to other local venues.

But, when one bout of legal trouble has you down, the answer is to reopen a classic venue in one of the most difficult locations to sell of late: Trees in Deep Ellum. Following the venue's closure in 2005, potential resurgence in 2006, and crushing defeat in early 2007, Firewater's talent buyer Clint Barlow says he's already pretty deep in the process of reopening Trees. Commenters thus far on the Observer post are skeptical. As am I.

That'd be pretty awesome! We get lots of nostalgic comments about Trees in our interviews. Almost everyone we interview lists trees as a favorite venue from days past.

On the one hand, I'm skeptical because the new Trees will never live up to the memories I have of that place. On the other hand, whatever, it would be nice to go to Deep Ellum and not wonder whether today will be the day that I take a screwdriver to the kidney from a schizophrenic hobo.
