Brunch review: Mattito’s in Frisco
When the sun rises an hour before you it must surely be the weekend and probably a Sunday morning. Scratching your head as you step into the kitchen, PJs still on and sleep in your eyes, a brilliant idea pops to mind, which astounds you considering how sleepy you still are. This is a morning for Mattito's.
Last Sunday morning our family woke early for our son to play soccer. When we returned home, it was nearly 10am and we had heard that Mattito's lays out an elaborate and generous Sunday Brunch. We decided that this was the Sunday to see for ourselves. We were besieged with the choices and absolutely thrilled with the meal. In fact, we were so delighted by the bounteous brunch that we lingered for nearly an hour to sample and savor several selections that were laid out before us.
The children were quick to point out the giant fountain of chocolate that flowed seamless drapes of decadence. Piles of skewered strawberries, marshmallows and pastries lay at the foot of the fountain waiting for me after I finished my custom ordered omelet. My daughter meandered to the waffle station that offered piped perfection fresh from the waffle press and a delicious assortment of toppings. Row after row of food left me swooning for a smidgen of each item as the heavenly smells wafted around me. Breakfast standards such as bacon and sausage were next to Mexican classics of beans and rice. Fresh tortillas waited to be wrapped around whatever you were in the mood for while ladles of guacamole, salsa and picco suggested flavors that would compliment any choice you made.
My son, being the classic eight-year-old boy, managed to find chicken fingers which he paired with pineapple wedges and grapes. Two out of three isn't bad! Some quick negotiations with mom garnered him a turn at the fountain of fabulousness if he ate two strawberries and four other pieces of fruit.
Did you say that you were really hankering for a Chile Relleno, smothered in green chili sauce and loaded with grilled chicken because it reminded you of that amazing brunch in Playa del Carmen when you were on holiday last year? Oh, that's right, that's me again! There is nothing shameful in returning to your table with a couple plates, nothing at all. A Quesadilla station, Flautas, Enchiladas, Chimichangas, Fajitas, Tamales, Ceviche and Migas rounded out the brunch with Mexican flair while traditional offerings such as a made to order omelet station, fruit treys, samplings of cheeses and countless desserts to include my favorite, Sopapillas, made the brunch a diners delight that deserves more than a dollop of attention.
Did I mention the bottomless Champagne, Mimosas, coffee, tea, Orange juice and sodas? When you consider the tremendous quality of food, the rich and diverse flavors of all the dishes offered, the sensational sweets that set the meal perfectly and the bottomless beverages all served by some of Frisco's friendliest staff, you have a bonafide brunch that is one of the best Frisco has to offer.
I invite you to gather with family and friends this Sunday at Mattito's between 10am and 2pm. Adults dine for the remarkably reasonable price of $16.99 and kids under 12 are just $6.99. Dining on the picture perfect patio is a first class way to welcome the day or remain inside where the laughter of neighboring tables and the smiles of passing guests will remind you of why your choice to spend your morning at Mattito's was a great one.
