Well, Pavel, if you paid attention to the news you'd know that anybody who's ever touched Mexico is already fatally ill...might as well let them celebrate one last time.

So glad the kids learn about this important holiday.
So how many of you can tell me when Texas Independence Day is? ... with Googling.

Russ Vandeveerdonk, says:
I thought they canceled Cinco de Mayo due to this silly swine flu outbreak? Maybe I got the swine flu,... being in ICU for almost two straight weeks? Again. Really it is for my heart only. Now in a private room at Hughuley Hospital, Ft. Worth. By the way, what a great new hospital, but far from Dallas. 35w South before Burleson.

Russ, you are right that the Cinco de Mayo event at Pike Park was canceled, but we haven't heard any updates about these Dallas ISD events. however, this release was sent out last week. if they are canceled, we'll be sure to update

Jesus Valadez, says:
Jason, a better question to ask when the Battle of the Alamo was since well, Cinco de Mayo is a date of some mexican battle. (don't ask me what battle since I dunno)

Jason Rice, says:
Jesus -- you gotta stop straddlin' the fence here.
Bud, you let go that you've done ROTC, so that makes you MORE American than me (in anybody's book), but then you wanna play "don't ask me I'm Mexican" and then you divulge you're as clueless as me in the 5 of May thing...
(ok, truth be known, I am slightly aware it was an insurrection to oust the propped up Hapsburg crony of Napoleon 3, Maximillian, a move verbally supported by the Union leadership during the US Civil War as France was surreptitiously supporting the Confederacy via that conduit, but over a year later materially bolstered upon the collapse of the Confederacy, either prolonged or shortened due to this initial insurrection depending on your view, that led to profiteering in the south of paramilitary carpetbaggers and prolonged a deeply resented political manipulation of several southernmost states sometimes in the name of appreciation of the Mexican support, but usually in name only .... oh, sorry... back to ignorance)
But anyway, with all the international independence days to choose from in May:
* Czechoslovakia - May 9
* Laos - May 11
* Paraguay - May 14
* Israel - May 15
* Norway - May 17
* Cuba - May 20
* Argentina - May 25
* Jordan - May 25
* Guyana - May 26
5th of May confuses me. Especially since it happened in an other country entirely.
Is it just that March 6 (fall of the Alamo) can sometimes get close to Easter or something? At least it did happen here.

Heck NO. You gotta get up close with those things. Real hysteria calls for genuine irrational responses.

Jesus, the best ones for your money used to come from China, but now I think it's Indonesia. If you want them to look really authentic though, look for the label Heche en Malaysia.

To answer your question, Scott, Dallas ISD has only closed Webster Elementary so far. Since none of these celebrations are taking place at that school, assume they're on until further notice.
