UPDATED: Funniest Comic in Dallas “determined” this last Wednesday

While some think that humor is mostly subjective, apparently it can also be judged, picked apart, voted on, etc. This Wednesday, May 6, The Improv in Addison will host their Funniest Comic in Dallas finals. After dragging the process out since the freakin' middle of December, the 10 who made it through the opening rounds and semi-finals will joke it out for the title.
The finalists are Mark Agee, D Ellis, Justin Foster, Nick Guerra, Brad Lacour, Marvin Michaels, Anthony Perez, Kirk Smith, John Tole, and Paul Varghese. Below are videos* to whet your appetite and get some pre-judging in before the real judging. You can also get your e-heckling out of the way so you don't feel compelled to be "that guy" on Wednesday.

I attended the semi-finals at the Improv last week with a few friends. After not seeing live comedy for years we really enjoyed the show and were impressed with the quality of the comedians. A couple of the comedians were really, really rank and vulgar even for our liberal tastes. You expect some if it - but it was over the top and they didn't make it to the finals. This was fun and we are likely to go again soon.

These comedians are all pros. 8-12 years doing standup. There's no contest at this point for these headline level comedians, just styles. All are very funny. Buy tickets and have a great time.
Dallas is home to some of the best standup comedy in the business but without a local television or movie industry these comedy stars have to leave Dallas to make even a basic entertainment living. In Dallas that means private and corporate events are always welcome and pay more than area comedy clubs. Yes, Dallas is a sports town and we build the largest venues for big out-of-town stars but these comedians and their families reflect how Dallas supports it's own grassroots entertainment. Blues, comedy and artists depend on you. Book'em or lose'em. Buy tickets or watch another night of network programming. The talent is live and local. Discover it.

Pavel, if you are interested, there are not only tons of open mics around town, but the various Hyena's Clubs and the Backdoor Comedy Club in Dallas' Doubletree feature local comedians all the time.
I didn't realize there was such a fluent comedy community in DFW until recently. I've been to several shows now and have never had a bad time.

Open mics can be a bit rough because of the crowd (there's almost always one guy who is pissed that REO Speedwagon was turned down), but they're often where the comedians are trying out new material, which is interesting.

Well, while I enjoy standup, it's not something I think of as being in my list of regular going-out activities.
But like I said, I live next door to the Addison improve place; I should check it out and if I like it, I'll refer back to this list.
Never been to a truly open mic night. Here's hoping I don't get drunk and become the jackass heckler.
