League of Women Voters of Arlington to hold all-star fundraiser at UT Arlington planetarium
On Saturday, May 16, 2009, the Arlington League of Women Voters will host an All-Star Fundraiser including an Italian Dinner, a Planetarium show “Bad Astronomy”, and a silent auction of art by Martin High School students and teachers in the Planetarium at the University of Texas at Arlington. Cost is $40 a person. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Reservations required by May 14. Checks payable to LWVA should be sent to LWVA, PO Box 127, Arlington, TX 76004. The buffet dinner, catered by UTA, will include classic selections like Chicken Valdastano and Lasagna. The “Bad Astronomy” show, narrated by the “Bad Astronomer” Phil Plait, will be shown on UTA’s 60 foot diameter dome and state of the art Digistar 3 CRT Projection system. The silent auction will include works on canvas, in clay, and in glass, selected by students and instructors from Martin High School art classes. LWVA and the artists will share in the proceeds from the auction.
The League of Women Voters of Arlington, a non-profit and non-partisan organization of volunteers, holds frequent public forums on issues of concern to the community, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. LWVA’s mission is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government. Membership is open to all citizens of voting age.
