Two TWU students selected to attend global institute in the Caribbean
Rolle and Thomas are among 36 students from 20 universities across the Caribbean and the U.S. to be selected to participate.
Two Texas Woman's University students will be better prepared to become global leaders thanks to their participation in the 2009 Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders in the Caribbean.
Junior Ashleigh Rolle and graduate student Annette Thomas are among only 36 students from 20 universities across the Caribbean and the U.S. to be selected to participate in the institute, which is designed to prepare students for global leadership.
"The best prepared leaders for tomorrow are those who have the capacity to understand and effectively deal with the dynamic global realities impacting our communities and region," said Dr. Solomon Kabuka, director of the institute. "The institute provides students with the building blocks for acquiring that capacity."
Ms. Rolle, a kinesiology major, is excited about gaining a global perspective for her future career in physical therapy.
"Health care and the world economy are connected, and learning more about it will benefit my future career," Ms. Rolle said.
Ms. Thomas, a dual master of business administration and master of health systems management major, believes her experience at the institute will be invaluable.
"Opening my mind to other people and their perspectives will be helpful in my future goal to open a medical clinic in a third-world country," Ms. Thomas said. "It is a global world of opportunity out there, and the more you know about it, the better it is for you."
The Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders is sponsored by the University of the Virgin Islands, in collaboration with the University of the West Indies and Inter American University. Its goal is to equip students with the broad knowledge and skills necessary to assume leadership roles in the global marketplace.
