Artfest in Dallas’ Fair Park to allow pet attendees for the first time

— Tails are wagging throughout the Metroplex as The 500, Inc. has announced that dogs are now invited to attend ARTFEST for the first time in its 40-year history. Over Memorial Weekend, May 22-24, dogs are welcome to stroll the sidewalks of Fair Park and view over 200 artists, live bands, cultural performances and the ARTFEST for Kids Area in Fair Park. The 500, Inc. will provide water bowls throughout the event. Dog admission is $1 each.

Art is the star of the show at ARTFEST, and several artists turn to pets and animals for inspiration. For instance, ceramic sculpture artist Carole Fleischman, Wayne and Jan Steppy of Flower Mound, Gary and Mary Curtis of Sunnyvale, painter Andrea John, and Peggy and Donald Pimpler.

DOGGIE DO'S AND DON'T'S AT ARTFEST

  • DO bring your dog!
  • DO keep your dog on a leash (in accordance to Dallas City ordinance).
  • DO bring a plastic bag to clean up after your dog. WikiHow.com offers several methods to simplify this unpleasant task here.
  • DON'T leave your dog at the SPCA to dogsit.
  • DON'T try to sell you dog as a piece of art (even if you consider him a masterpiece).
  • DON'T let your dog lift his leg near artwork.
