The Green Teens have their own YouTube channel where they provide green living tips: www.youtube.com/greenteensnrh

In the fall of 2008, the City of North Richland Hills Cultural Arts Division initiated a program at Birdville High School called Green Teens. The program is grant funded and is designed to reach out to young environmentalists through training and hands-on demonstrations. The program includes educational and practical components that facilitate long-term, positive changes in attitudes concerning waste prevention, reduction, reuse, recycling and sustainability. The Green Teens have met weekly to discuss a variety of environmental topics that allow them to initiate environmental programs on their campus and produce public awareness campaigns.

The Green Teens are busy working on their end of the school year presentation to showcase a whole year of learning about the environment and how to live green. They will be presenting in the Library Community Room at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12. This presentation will be for their parents, Mayor Trevino, City Council, Park Board, BISD Administration, Birdville High School Administration and the community. An overview will be given showcasing what the program and students have accomplished throughout the year, and the students will show off what they have learned with hands-on demonstrations for attendees. The demonstrations will include how to make toxic-free cleaning solutions, educating attendees on the benefits and ease of using a worm composting bin, the effects of water shed, the path a recycling bottle takes through a recycling plant, and the students will even wow the crowd with a solar oven they built from scratch and were able to bake cookies in just by sunlight alone! Please join us May 12 at the NRH Library, located at 9015 Grand Avenue in North Richland Hills at 6:30 p.m. to support youth in the community and their efforts to live greener lives.
