Concert preview: The Texas Hippie Coalition at the Boiler Room in Denton (May 16)

You better believe that The Texas Hippie Coalition's show at the Boiler Room on Saturday, May 16 is going to have the energy of two freight trains colliding at full speed. The Texas Hippie Coalition is comprised of the dudes you least want to pass in a dark alley and they have the face melting music to back up that image. If you are a fan of bands like Pantera and Black Label Society then you will love this band. I remember the first time I saw them was by accident. I had no idea what kind of scene I was about to wonder in to, after reading Texas HIPPIE Coalition on the marquee, I expected to find a college jam band, made up of a bunch of pot smoking liberals with dirty souls on their bare feet. Well, I was mistaken. Instead I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the purest forms of hard rocking thrash metal that to this day, in my mind, has not been topped.

The Texas Hippie Coalition is known, and well renowned for the energy and excitement of their live shows, and they will surely have it on display for the crowd at the Boiler Room. I would expect for this show to get pretty rowdy especially considering the full lineup. Opening the evening will be a band called Glister from Oklahoma City. Yet another fine young rock bands from the state whose live show will hopefully meet the high standards of their recorded stuff.

The middle act will be Denton's own Trebuchet. Fresh off the release of their epic double-disc debut album, Bear and the Moon, Trebuchet is making a name for themselves as one of the area's best hard rock bands. They will more than pull their weight at this show, which I am expecting to produce some points on the nearest Richter Scale.
