New Milestone Farmers Market kicks off Sunday May 17 at Milestone Culinary Arts Center in Dallas
DALLAS The new Milestone Farmers Market, which kicks off Sunday, May 17, will feature organic vegetables, grass-fed meat and poultry and artisanal foods from more than a dozen producers who are part of EatGreenDFW, north Texas’ only on-line farmers market.
The market will be held at the Milestone Culinary Arts Center at 4531 McKinney Avenue and in the adjacent parking lot from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. or sell-out.
“We’ve been looking for a way to help promote locally grown vegetables, meats and poultry,” explained Chef Sharon Van Meter, the executive director of the Center, “and this partnership with EatGreenDFW allows us to introduce consumers and chefs to local producers.”
Chef Van Meter also plans on conducting several mini-cooking lessons in the Milestone test kitchen to demonstrate the best ways to cook grass-fed meats.
Plans call for the market to be held on the third Sunday of the month through October, said EatGreenDFW co-owner Rich Shoen. “This gives our customers a chance to get to know our producers first hand and learn directly from them how they manage their farms and ranches,” he said.
Market participants include vegetable producers Garden Harvest, Moss Gathers and Texas Ranch and Dreams who will have onion, lettuce, garlic, herbs and a variety of greens to sell; and meat and poultry producers Dominion Farms, JZJ Natural Beef; P.O.P. Acres and Sloans Creek Farm. Also on hand will be Good Spice Specialty Foods, Kaps Pepper Company, Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters and WISEarth organic insecticide and soil enrichment products.
