Dallas City Councilwoman Elba Garcia considering running for Dallas County Commissioner

I bumped into (literally) the Honorable Elba Garcia at the Super Bowl press conference on Tuesday. I asked her what was next for her now that her time on the Dallas City Council is about to end.

Dr. Garcia stressed (of course) that her priorities lie with the citizens of Dallas, but she did inform me that she is putting together a possible run for Dallas County Commissioner. Dr. Garcia would challenge Republican Ken Mayfield in Commissioner District 4. District 4 includes part of West Dallas, part of Oak Cliff, Mountain Creek, Duncanville and Cedar Hill, and Irving.

An election for the seat is not scheduled until 2010. Stay tuned.

what is her doctorate designation in?

anybody know?

Is it typical that people with doctorate degrees (other than medicine) walk around labelling themsevlves as such?

The few that I know personally who have made it aaaallll the way through school definitely use Dr. in any professional context but usually do follow it up with Ed.D., Psy.D. etc. to clarify their field of study.

Something about all that effort and money they spent to earn the title.
