Norval F. Pohl was president of the University of North Texas from 2000 to 2006. Last year he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. Despite what were considered successful treatments, his health did not improve.

Pohl passed away on Tuesday evening at his home in Arizona. He is credited with building up the College of Engineering and creating a student recreation facility, named for him, among other accomplishments as president.
