Cedar Hill City Council race heading to a runoff
Cedar Hill voters will need to return to the polls next month, as one of four local races May 9 failed to produce a winner.
In Cedar Hill City Council races, incumbent Cory Spillman was unopposed in Place 1, but a three-way race in Place 4 failed to produce a winner, as Cedar Hill requires an absolute majority to win.
Chris Parvin took just over 47 percent of the vote in Place 4, while Mike Holley had 40 percent; vote totals were 549-469. A third candidate, Wallace Swayze, had 149 votes. The race had no incumbent; Greg Patton retired from the position.
On the Cedar Hill School Board side, two incumbents easily won re-election. In Place 6, Mike Marshall won re-election with more than 67 percent of the vote and Sonya Grass took 66 percent of the vote in a two-way race in Place 7.
“I'm very excited the voters had confidence in me to give me a second term on the Cedar Hill ISD board,” Grass said. “We have so many things in progress, and I'll be able to continue to contribute to make sure our students get absolutely the best education.”
Marshall also commented on his re-election.
“I am humbled to be elected again. I look forward to serving the district and striving toward our goal of being a world-class district,” he said.
At the May 11 Cedar Hill School Board meeting, Board President Dan Hernandez said he was looking forward to working with the same team of school board trustees for another year.
The runoff election between Parvin and Holley for the city council seat is June 13. Details on early voting will be posted when available.
