Eastfield College to host East Metroplex Piano Festival


An impressive faculty of educators with specialty in piano performance have been assembled to teach the week-long camps.

Eastfield College will host the Eastfield Metroplex East Piano Festival June 15-20. Pierrette Mouledous, Director of the Piano Department, has assembled an impressive faculty of educators with specialty in piano performance to teach the week-long camps. Instructors will focus on elements of stylistic interpretation and technique from classical, jazz and liturgical piano repertoire for students age 7 and up; tuition starts at $75 (audition on June 9 from 2-5 p.m. is required for intermediate and advanced workshops which occur June 17-20).

Highlights of the festival include guest performances by:

* The MAMTA Piano Ensemble, performers from the Mesquite Music Teachers Association

* The Elysee Piano Quartet

* Terry McCoy (classical and jazz pianist) has taught private piano instruction for 26 years in the Dallas area. He is an active member of the Music Teachers Association of Dallas and Mesquite. Mr. McCoy completed his music studies at the University of Texas in Dallas. He has studied jazz piano with Gary Freeman and maintains a jazz repertoire. Mr. McCoy is also a member of Elysee Piano Quartet.

* Dr. Timothy Brown (pianist, composer) did his undergraduate studies at Bowling Green State University and received his master's degree from the University of North Texas where he studied piano with Adam Wodnicki, and music composition with Newel Kay Brown. He later was a recipient of a research fellowship from the Royal Holloway, University of London where he did his post-graduate studies in music composition and orchestration studying with the English composer, Brian Lock. Mr. Brown is currently a fine arts specialist for the Dallas Public Schools and serves on the advisory board of the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas.

* Kent Ellingson (jazz pianist) is a Fargo native who earned a degree from MSUM in 1980 and a MME from the University of North Texas in 1983. He has taught music at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas since 1984, and is an instructor of jazz piano at Collin College in Plano, Texas, since 1995. He also is a freelance pianist and keyboardist in the Metroplex. Ellingson's honors include residential Scholars Teacher Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Education and Who's Who Among America's Teachers for 2002 and 2004.

* Konstantyn Travinskyy (concert pianist) was born in Ukraine in 1981. By age 8 Travinskyy participated in his first competition in Kiev and won 3rd prize. After graduating from the Special Music School in Kiev, Travinskyy was accepted to the Ukrainian National Academy of Music. While pursuing his master's degree in Piano Performance, Travinskyy continued his career under the tutelage of Van Cliburn Gold Medalist, Vladimir Viardo. Within two weeks of arriving in the U.S. in 2003, he won 1st prize at the rescendo Music Competition in Tulsa; 2nd prize at the Kingsville Concerto Competition and 1st prize at the Texas Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition. As recent 1st prize winner of the 2004 Wideman Piano Competition, Travinskyy is pleased to be sharing his passion for music.
