Former Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel regains seat
At Monday's Richardson City Council meeting, Gary Slagel was re-elected as Mayor and Bob Townsend was re-elected Mayor Pro-Tem.
The votes from the May 9, 2009 election were canvassed and the newly appointed council members took their seats. Those newly elected members -- Mark Solomon, Bob Macy, and Amir Omar -- along with the other re-elected incumbents convened into executive session and returned about 40 minutes later. In Richardson, as specified in the City Charter, the Mayor is elected by the City Council and not by direct vote.
When they did return Gary Slagel was re-elected Mayor with a 6-1 vote with only former Mayor Steve Mitchell voting against Slagel. Bob Townsend was then re-elected as Mayor Pro-Tem with a 7-0 vote.
This night capped a long and hard fought campaign season which sometimes turned negative.
We will have video of the events and speeches by incoming and outgoing members,as well as expanded coverage, sometime on Tuesday.
