Man dead following Arlington police chase

4

When Arlington police approached a van whose driver appeared to be asleep (near Collins St. and Pioneer Pkwy.) on Monday night (May 18), the driver - later identified as 46-year-old Rito Chairez-Cortes - took off and fled in an easterly direction.

Officers pursued; Chairez-Cortes crashed into some trees and a couple of parked cars, ending up fatally injured. No one else was hurt in the crash.

Do people not know that you NEVER try to out run/drive the police? EVER. They have co-workers that will join in the chase and cuff and stuff you once they drag your stupid *ss out of the car?

Excuse me, my inner dialogue seems to have malfunctioned....

There was a study showing that people who are bad at X are very bad at estimating accurately their skill at X.

Everyone is bad at getting away from the police. So everyone is bad at estimating their odds, and thinks they're much more in their favor than not. And then they hit some trees.

Any word on why he was fleeing, anyway?
