Trader Vic’s at The Palomar in Dallas names Michael Owens as new chef

Trader Vic’s at The Palomar has named culinary veteran Michael Owens as new executive chef, effective immediately, according to Palomar developer Kip Sowden.

Classically trained under the watchful eye of some of the nation’s most renowned chefs; including those at the 21 Club, the Gotham Bar & Grill and the Slanted Door. Chef Michael Owens’ experience spans both coasts and a plethora of cuisine styles.

Chef Owens’ background includes work for The Hyatt and The Fairmont Hotel systems, the award winning Star Canyon Restaurant under the guidance of celebrity chef Stephan Pyles, The nationally recognized Dove’s Nest Restaurant, The DiRoNa awarded Oceanaire Seafood Room and the world famous steakhouse; Morton’s of Chicago, just to name a few.

Chef Owens has cooked next to some of the nation’s leading celebrity chefs like Stephan Pyles, Rick Bayless, and Martin Yan, Zarela Martinez, Susan Spicer, Paul Prudhomme, Julia Child and others. He has cooked for celebrities, sports figures, actors/ actresses, government officials, foreign dignitaries and rock groups.

Chef Owens has been publicly recognized by D Maqazine, Texas Monthly, Dallas Modern Luxury, and The Dallas Morning News as an innovator in his field. His plates have been called “ambitious and well-executed” and Chef Owens is considered to be the “King of Retro Pastry” in the Dallas food scene.

Chef Owens has been spotlighted on ABC Channel 8’s Good Morning Texas and FOX 4 TV’s Good Day programs. In his spare time Chef Owens enjoys working with local celebrity chefs benefiting Dallas’ many wonderful charities, such as the North Texas Food Bank, The Make a Wish Foundation, The Neurofibromitosis Foundation, SOS (Share Our Strength) and Taste of the NFL.
