Highland Villages eyes ranch for new soccer fields

If city officials have their way, the Double Tree Ranch property on the northeast side of Highland Village may be the future home of a soccer facility.

Several years ago, the 36-acre retreat was purchased by a group of local investors with plans to develop it into a high-density retirement community, but the project did not come to fruition.

Now, city officials are considering buying the property to set aside for recreational uses, including trails and soccer fields.

The city's Community Development Corporation will hold a second public hearing this Tuesday to consider annual updates to their Facilities Development Capital Improvement Program, which includes the Double Tree Ranch proposal.

Later that evening, the Highland Village City Council will then consider a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into a purchase and sale agreement with the Trust for Public Land to acquire Double Tree Ranch.

The Trust for Public Land is a non-profit organization that conserves land for communities to use as parks and other natural places.
