To conclude its 50th Anniversary Season, Dallas Theater Center invites the community to join the theater in honoring its history Tues., June 2, at 7:30 p.m. DTC friends and family, past artistic directors and former company members will gather at the Kalita Humphreys Theater for a very special evening to celebrate the organization’s remarkable history.
Current DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty will lead a lively forum featuring previous artistic directors Richard Hamburger (1992-2007, Artistic Director Emeritus) and Adrian Hall (1983-89); and special representatives Robyn Baker Flatt (Paul Baker, 1959-82), Trey Birkhead (the late Mary Sue Jones, 1982-83), and Linda Gehringer (the late Ken Bryant, 1990).
“As one of the first theaters founded in the regional theater movement, DTC has always been recognized as an institution with a high degree of artistic excellence,” says Moriarty. “June 2 will truly be a special evening as longtime family and friends of the theater come together at the Kalita Humphreys to celebrate the legendary personalities who guided the theater to great artistic heights and acclaim over the course of an extraordinary 50-year history.”
The evening will also include the screening of a short documentary and the official unveiling of DTC’s 50th Anniversary commemorative hardback book, Staged Right, which gives an intimate chronicling of the many players and productions vital to the life of the theater over the years.
Sarah Warnecke, DTC 50th Anniversary Committee Chair, says, “Staged Right is a vivid, behind-the-scenes look at the 50-year life of Dallas Theater Center, beginning with the first spark of conception in 1954, to the spectacular opening night at the Kalita Humphreys Theater in 1959, all the way to the present auspicious inaugural season of Kevin Moriarty. The season-closing celebration June 2 is a great opportunity to share firsthand stories and cherished memories directly from some of the people you will encounter between the covers of the commemorative book.”
Expected stellar attendees include past and current company members. A dessert and champagne reception will follow the panel discussion and Staged Right will be available for purchase.
Complimentary tickets are available to the limited seating engagement by contacting Rashida Moore at rashida.moore@dallastheatercenter.org or 214.252.3914. Tickets will be held at the door.
