Texas Rangers 5, Houston Astros 0
HOUSTON The Texas Rangers completed the sweep of their National League rivals Sunday night, defeating the Astros 5-0 in Houston. The win was the third straight for Texas and improved them to nine games over .500 at 26-17.
Rangers starter Brandon McCarthy, who had been injured for a majority of his first two seasons in Texas, pitched the rare complete game shutout. It was McCarthy's first career complete game, and improved the tall righthander to 4-2 with a 4.67 ERA. McCarthy allowed nine hits, eight of them singles, walked one and struck out six.
The Rangers hitters spread eleven hits around, with every Rangers starter except McCarthy collecting at least one hit on the night. Centerfielder Josh Hamilton returned to the lineup and went 3-for-4 with two runs, a home run and a double, while new cleanup hitter Nelson Cruz went 2-for-5 with an RBI single.
