Texas Rangers 6, Houston Astros 5 (10 innings)
HOUSTON The Texas Rangers relied heavily on their youngsters Friday night, and it paid off in a 6-5 extra-inning win over the Astros in Houston. The win stopped a three-game losing streak and improved Texas to 24-17 on the year.
Rookie shortstop Elvis Andrus had a mastodonic game, going 4-for-5 with a pair of runs, a home run, a stolen base, and some brilliant defensive plays including an eighth-inning double play that kept the Rangers in the game.
Another rookie, Rangers starter Derek Holland, pitched five-plus innings while replacing injured starter Vicente Padilla. Holland gave up three runs on five hits, walked none and struck out four. Frank Francisco came off the injured list to pitch a scoreless tenth for his tenth save in ten tries.
