Fort Worth’s Van Cliburn Competition announces 12 semi-finalists

— The Van Cliburn international piano competition taking place this week in Fort Worth announced the 12 semi-finalists, who emerged from a field of 29 competitors. (There were 30, but Yue Chu had to withdraw because of a pinched nerve.)

The 12 semi-finalists are:

Evgeni Bozhanov, Bulgaria, 25

Ran Dank, Israel, 27

Alessandro Deljavan, Italy, 22

Kyu Yeon Kim, South Korea, 23

Eduard Kunz, Russia, 28

Andrea Lam, Australia, 27

Michail Lifits, Germany, 26

Yeol Eum Son, South Korea, 23

Nobuyuki Tsujii, Japan, 20

Mariangela Vacatello, Italy, 27

Di Wu, China, 24

Haochen Zhang, China, 19

The semifinals will run from May 28-31, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and take place at Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth. Each of the 12 semifinalists will perform 60-minute solo recitals and one piano quintet with the Takacs Quartet.

Out of the 12, six advance to the Final Round. And then it's pins and needles time!

I was hoping to stream the live audio of this competition from the website, but it appeared as though a downloader had to first subscribe via a minimum monetary contribution of $75 :-(

Ah! But the music compositions are still alive as they take on new relevance with each generation. And I doubt that anyone reaches the finals without a genuine passion for their craft; they're certainly not robots or puppets by any stretch.
