Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, May 27-June 2
As May moves into June, expect the number of kids and family events to increase as school comes to an end. But -- sorry, kids -- not just yet. This week most of the good stuff is relegated to the weekend, with a classic fairy tale on stage in Frisco, farmers market fun in Dallas, celebrating the founders in Rockwall, pop-up book art in Dallas, and Thomas the Train in Grand Prairie.
Word of Mouth Productions will wrap up their 2008-2009 Literary Classics Series with four stagings of The Little Mermaid and the Prince at the Frisco Arts Center (one Friday night, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday).
On Saturday, May 30, the Dallas Farmers Market will host the Farm and Flower Festival, an event designed to promote gardening and the joys of living a healthy lifestyle. The market will also be open for its regular business, so make sure to grab some locally-grown produce.
Saturday is also the day for Rockwall's annual Founder's Day Festival, held in and around Rockwall City Hall. The free celebration will feature some wild animals (courtesy of Critterman Texas Safari) and music all day long.
On Sunday, May 31, pop-up book artist Robert Sabuda will show off his work at the Dallas Museum of Art. Sabuda is known as the “Prince of Pop-Ups” for his feats of paper engineering in his quest to bring to life literary classics in a new way.
Finally, Thomas (the Tank Engine) and Friends will make an appearance at the Nokia Theatre Grand Prairie on Tuesday, June 2. Thomas is forever having to prove himself, and he'll do so once again in this musical adventure.
