Owner of Cafe Italia on Lovers Lane in Dallas announces its looming closure
DALLAS Restaurateur Scott Jones has announced that his Lover’s [sic] Lane restaurant, Cafe Italia, is in its final season, concluding its seven-year run.
“The brand has been around Dallas for 25 years and faced with major building upgrades, we wanted to end this chapter and begin fresh with an exciting new concept,” says Jones. “But because we have such a wonderfully loyal following of Café Italia, I wanted to give everyone, including me and my staff, an opportunity to say a proper goodbye.”
From now until August 29, the restaurant will be bringing back some of the most popular creations and will always have something on the menu at the same price as the day the restaurant opened its doors.
Café Italia has been a part of the Dallas restaurant scene since 1984, when it was located on Maple Avenue. Jones bought the restaurant in 2001and opened the Lovers Lane location in January 2002. He added his Tex-Italian fare to the menu to offer the uniqueness that has helped make Café Italia successful year after year. The restaurant has continued to garner rave reviews and was even named by PaperCity as a “Top Five Dallas Restaurant”.
Louis Mendes, the man who opened the first Café Italia on Maple Ave 25 years ago, has returned as General Manager and will be a part of the new concept. “Louie gave birth to Café Italia and I wanted him here to see it through the end,” says Jones.
Jones plans to announce the new concept later in the summer. Some of the menu items will make the transition to the new concept and Jones will be polling guests to make sure the most popular items make the cut.
“Our friends have made Café Italia a success and I feel they should be include in the decision making process with the new concept,” says Jones. “This is their neighborhood spot and we want it to always feel like home.”
