— The Texas Rangers were soundly thrashed for the second time in three games Wednesday night, losing 9-2 to the New York Yankees at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The loss dropped Texas to 27-19 on the year, still the third-best record in baseball.

Rangers rookie starter Derek Holland was clearly overmatched against the powerful Yankee lineup, surrendering six runs off ten hits over just five innings. Holland, who walked two and struck out five, fell to 1-2 on the season with a 5.70 ERA.

The Rangers hitters, on the other hand, could get nothing going against Yankees starter A.J. Burnett, collecting just five hits all game. The Rangers did not even get on the board until the bottom of the seventh, when Ian Kinsler hit his 13th home run of the season, a two-run shot to cut New York's lead to 8-2.
