Fort Worth police can’t arrest man who called woman “fat”

... because he committed no actual crime, according to authorities.

The husband of a Fort Worth woman who was called "fat" by a worker handing out flyers for a local health club called the police to report the Tuesday, May 26 incident.

The unidentified woman was out in the neighborhood walking with her new baby, and refused to take a flyer from one of the two men handing them out; he followed her and made the rude and ill-advised comment.

Overzealous? Stupid? (Yep.) But not criminal, according to investigating officers.

Just the fact that the husband called the police instead of heckling back at the name callers is demonstrative of our spoiled, modern mindset.

I'm glad you think that way. Then you won't mind when I call both you and the author of this article a pair judgemental jackasses.

I happen to live in that neighborhood. The men who hand out the flyers look like crack addicts. They are mentally unbalanced. They come around at least three times a week.

The issue is not the name calling. It is the fact a hostile man was following her. If she told him off, she might have been in more danger. If she feels threatened, that is assault. Pure and simple. Go ask any attorney.

Imagine yourself, as a woman, alone, on a deserted street in the middle of the day, being followed by a drug addict while be harassed. She wouldn't be able to escape to her own home for fear he would follow her there.

As far as I'm concerned, Fitness 2000 can go to hell.

Sounds like the company is trying to skimp on marketing... and getting what it pays for.

I nod affirmatively to both comments following mine. Details as the ones included by Jen put the 'whole story' more correct of center. And with a neighborhood report now clarified by an actual person from the area, I stand corrected in my initial reaction to an article that perhaps erred on the side of brevity, which will probably cause future hesitation on my part for commenting on articles absent of my reading them from a more complete source. Thanks, Jen, for your comments in that regard. They were well received.

I think Jen misses the point. If the dude had anything that resembled testicles, he would have gone after the cretin who was harassing his wife instead of calling the cops.

Yeah, the original report said absolutely nothing about any of this. Thank for the clarification.

Lady should have left off the detail about calling her fat, and simply said that they harassed her and followed her around. (Nobody likes a fat person, but everyone has sympathy for a mom with a baby being harassed by crackheads.)
