Fort Worth’s Lone Star Film Fest announces honorees and jurors
The folks at the Lone Star International Film Festival (LSFF) have announced that Horton Foote, Kris Kristofferson, John Schrimpf, and Tina Gorski will be honored with special recognition at the upcoming festival (November 11-15).
They have also announced the slate of jurors for the competition portion of the festival, to include actress Melonie Diaz; film connoisseur and veteran festival director Christian Gaines; performer Betty Buckley; Kimbell Art Museum Deputy Director Malcolm Warner; filmmaker Eric Bricker; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Curator Andrea Karnes; Magnolia Pictures Publicity and Marketing Director Arianne Ayers; and AMC Networks Manager of Original Programming Owen Shiflett, among others.
Horton Foote (whose Lifetime Achievement Award will be accepted by his son, Horton Foote Jr.) wrote some of the most memorable screenplays and screen treatments ever made into film, including those for To Kill a Mockingbird, Tender Mercies, The Trip to Bountiful, and Of Mice and Men (as directed by Gary Sinise). Foote died on March 4, 2009, leaving behind a rich legacy of creativity across many literary disciplines.
Kris Kristofferson will accept the inaugural Stephen Bruton Award, designed to honor artists whose careers, while anchored in music, branch out to include expression in film. The fact that Kristofferson was a long-time friend and band mate of Bruton makes this award especially meaningful.
John Schrimpf will receive the Commitment to Texas Award, thanks to his 30 years of devotion to the Texas motion picture industry. Says the LSIFF: "John has worked tirelessly to help incentivize Texas filmmakers to keep business in Texas. Working with both Tom Copeland and now Bob Hudgins at the Texas Film Commission, John has worked to lobby the Texas Legislature to keep Texas competitive in the ever changing marketplace."
Tina Gorski has been named honorary chair of this year's LSIFF. She has been "a dedicated partner in the rapid growth of the Lone Star Film Society. In coordinating the numerous performing arts and film events that take place at The Modern Auditorium throughout the year, Gorski has been instrumental in shaping the artistically strong and diverse film programming at The Modern, her home away from home. The film club she established, Reel People at the Modern, initially hoping for 50 members, has gown to over 400 members.
Tickets are now available for purchase through the Lone Star Film Society's webpage; you may purchase either individual event tickets or day- or multi-day passes.
