Nana’s Kountry Kitchen in Grapevine is proud of its chicken-fried steak

4

— Open since August is Nana's Kountry Kitchen, a small family-run spot in Grapevine that stays open long hours, from breakfast through dinner, and crows ever-so-gently about its chicken-fried steak.

The restaurant was founded by Shirley "Nana" Lunsford, and is staffed by Nana, her brother, and her daughter Heather.

"We made up our own little deal -- 'food so great you’ll scrape your plate'," Heather, 23, says. "Everyone comes in and loves our chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy."

Would those be real mashed potatoes? "They're real mashed potatoes, why would anyone want anything else?" she says.

Breakfast is served all day -- the breakfast tacos are popular -- and they do a $6.95 daily lunch that features items like meat loaf, pork ribs, hamburger steak, and grilled chicken. Their most expensive item: rib eye steak for $12.

Shirley saw the Grapevine location -- a former Mexican spot -- for rent and, having worked at restaurants off and on throughout her life, decided it was time to try her own place. They painted it and gave it a country-western theme to reflect their roots.

"We're from Springtown, a little tiny town. We're not from around here, we're from the country, you know?" Heather says. "Back home, we have horses, cows, we're country people. This is a pretty big city, we're like wow."

THIS RESTAURANT DOES NOT HAVE A SIGN OUT FRONT YET!!!

LOOK FOR A SIGN THAT SAYS "GRAND OPENING"

AFTER BEING OPEN 2 MONTHS, A SIGN WOULD BE NICE!!!

TWO OF US ATE AT NANA’S KOUNTRY KITCHEN ON SUNDAY (12:15).

EGGS AND BACON WERE ROOM TEMPERATURE, THE GRAVY WAS LUKE WARM AND THE BISCUITS WERE MORE DINNER ROLL TYPE WITH NO FLAVOR.

THE PANCAKES WERE VERY LARGE WITH SYRUP FROM A SQUEEZE BOTTLE. NO DRINKS. NOT WORTH THE $15 PLUS TAX AND TIP.
