Sleep Whale’s Houseboat is finally here!
That sound you hear is dozens of music critics around the world weeping in silent joy. Sleep Whale's latest album, Houseboat, drops Thursday on Western Vinyl (Here We Go Magic, Dirty Projectors). The Denton quartet, beloved by music journalists the world over, will now embark on a Southwest/West Coast tour in celebration of their first full length album. Pitchfork, the Rolling Stone of music blogs (when Rolling Stone wrote about music, that is), fall all over themselves anytime Sleep Whale rings a bell or pulls a string -- not that there's anything wrong with that. I myself have a hard time keeping it together when Little Brite floats into my ears, which is an ethereal two-to-three times a week (or anytime I need a really good nap). Sleep Whale's rhythmic melodies are as comforting as the womb.
There will be a CD release party at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jupiter House in Denton; then you can pick up your copy of Houseboat online or at your favorite local music shop. In the meantime, check out their interview on the Gutterth podcast, including a cool in-studio performance.
