Papou’s Greek Kitchen and Taverna in Lakewood no longer open
DALLAS Papou’s Greek Kitchen and Taverna, the Greek restaurant that shared a building with the Legal Grounds coffeehouse in the center of Lakewood, has left the building.
Co-owner Pete Zotos confirmed that Papou's shut down in August.
"We were there for three years but when the economy tanked, it was just one of those things," he says.
The place got a lot of attention up front because of the unusual shared-tenant situation it fostered -- one that required careful choreography with Legal Grounds owner Cory Murphy. Legal Grounds was open during the breakfast-and-lunch hours, but then the place shifted into a dinner-only Greek restaurant at night.
For those who might miss his food, Zotos suggests they visit St. Pete's Dancing Marlin, his restaurant in Deep Ellum.
"I welcome them to St. Pete's now," he says. "We added some heart-healthy dishes, and have five new items on the menu, including a chicken-fried tuna."

This is very unfortunate as the food at Papou’s was really, really good. Their spanakopita and taramosalata (caviar dip) were hands down the best in town. However, I should add that St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin is another city gem that I don’t frequent as much as I should. The food is delish.

Dallas' Greek food situation has been sad ever since Z closed down his spot. I just wait for the food festival every year. Ziziki's is all we've got, y'all.
