Dallas-based ACS awarded contract to administer Hurricane Ike relief grant
ACS will administer the program for two years.
DALLAS Residents of Galveston County, Texas, who are still rebuilding from Hurricane Ike, announced today that it has selected Affiliated Computer Services to administer a relief program under a two-year contract.
The program will award grants to fund repair, replacement, and relocation for homes and rental property damaged from Hurricane Ike. The storm hit Galveston County in September 2008 as the third-most destructive hurricane ever in the United States, washing away 3,600 structures and causing billions of dollars in damage.
The relief program is funded by a $99 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“It is critical for our residents to receive the help they need as quickly as possible,” said Galveston County Judge Jim Yarbrough. “ACS and the team they have assembled will ensure these funds are distributed for the maximum benefit of our community.”
“ACS solutions are proven through the country’s most demanding disasters, and are tailored and scalable to help governments quickly assist citizens,” said Joseph Doherty, executive vice president and group president of ACS Government Solutions Group. “We will quickly meet the needs of Galveston County to help citizens get their lives back to normal.”
