Dallas student earns silver medal in Tennessee rowing regatta

W. T. White junior Savannah Smith was among a record 8,600 rowers and coxswains gathered in Chattanooga, Tenn., over the weekend to compete in the 2009 Head of the Hooch Regatta, the largest rowing competition in the Southeast and the second largest rowing regatta in the country. On Sunday, Smith's HP Crew Mixed Youth 8+ boat won a silver medal and Saturday her 4+ boat rowed to a top 10 finish while her Youth 8 finished top 20.
HP Crew had a very successful weekend representing Dallas, with Lauren Pepe in the Women’s Youth Single finishing 5th; the Women's Youth Lightweight 8+ finishing 9th; a top 15 finish in the Men’s Youth Lightweight 8+; top 20 finishes in the Men’s Youth 4+; Men’s Youth 8+; Women’s Youth Novice 4+; and Men’s Youth 2x. The team also participated in the Row for the Cure event raising awareness and funds for the Komen Foundation.
Smith now finishes the fall race season with medals in all of her regattas, including a gold medal in the Boot of the Oklahoma regatta.
