Lane closures on Woodall Rodgers Freeway continue for Deck Park construction
One inside left lane on eastbound and one inside left lane on westbound Woodall Rodgers Freeway from St. Paul Street to Pearl Street will be closed every evening this week.
DALLAS Contractor Archer Western, contracted by The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to construct the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park, will be closing one inside left lane on eastbound and one inside left lane on westbound Woodall Rodgers Freeway from St. Paul Street to Pearl Street every evening this week. The closure will begin Monday at 9 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. each morning and will continue through Saturday.
The closure is necessary to allow Archer Western to demolish center median barriers and protect traffic from any demolition debris. TxDOT designed the contract to minimize construction impacts and maximize safety for the traveling public. Full closures are limited and limited to nights and weekends.
Information on future construction activities will be posted on TxDOT’s website in addition to postings on the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation website under the mobility section.
TxDOT awarded the $44.5 million dollar contract to Archer Western to construct the deck and plaza over Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The project starts west of St. Paul and extends 1/4 mile to east of Pearl Street, and when complete, will create a short tunnel.
This partnership project between TxDOT, the city of Dallas, and the private sector included $16.7 million dollars of enhancement funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is scheduled to be completed in early 2012.
TxDOT asks motorists to drive carefully through the work zone and appreciates their patience during this unique and exciting project.

DC- the problem with another park is that it will do nothing for retail business in downtown Dallas. You know, that 'revitalizing' thing they like to talk about.
In the long run parks won't do anything for downtown but give the street-folk a nice place to stay.
With a population that is so spread out over many sq miles, parks won't attract people to the area- shopping, clubs, and restaurants will. People don't spend bucks in Uptown because of the parks in the area.
A much better use of the money spent on this park or the one on Main St. might have been tax breaks or other incentives to enable small retail businesses to set up shop downtown.
But what do I know?
