FC Dallas re-signs midfielder Dax McCarty
FRISCO FC Dallas has re-signed midfielder Dax McCarty, head coach Schellas Hyndman announced Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not released per team and league policy.
“Dax was a key member of the team this season and a vital part of the successful late-season run we had,” said Hyndman. “Ensuring Dax would be in a FC Dallas uniform next season was a top priority for us.”
The sixth overall pick of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation adidas player, McCarty has spent all four years of his Major League Soccer career with FC Dallas. In 2009, he started 27 of 28 games, scoring three goals and delivering six assists, both single-season career highs.
In his MLS career, McCarty has started 71 games, tallying four goals and 15 assists in 4,777 minutes of play.
A native of Winter Park, Fla., McCarty attended North Carolina where he earned second-team All-America honors as a sophomore. He was a member of the U.S. Men's Olympic Team during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, after helping the U.S. U-23 team earn its Olympic berth. McCarty is currently in Slovakia training with the U.S. Men's National Team for two November friendlies in what serves as his first career call-up to the 22-man roster.
FC Dallas opens its 2010 home slate with in-state rival Houston Dynamo March 27 at Pizza Hut Park.
