Dallas flag lady sponsors flag retirement ceremony this Saturday at Flag Pole Hill

This patriotic event will include live music and participation from a range of military service, veteran and civic organizations.

What better venue for a Dallas flag retirement ceremony than Flag Pole Hill?

According to "flag lady" Jeanette Prasifka, the scope of her respectful and dutiful flag retirement ceremonies has outgrown its original Fair Park location, and thus the move to the wide open city park overlook just north of White Rock Lake.

Her next ceremony -- timed in closest possible proximity to Veteran's Day -- will occur this Saturday at 1 p.m., and will include the participation of representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, Junior ROTC, and others.

Dallas City Council Member Jerry Allen will follow a presentation of live patriotic music with welcoming remarks; at the conclusion of the ceremony, Taps will be played by a group of buglers from Bugles Across America. A rifle volley will close the event.

Over 300 old, worn flags have already been collected to be destroyed by fire (as per established ceremony). Attendees are encouraged to bring their own tattered national and/or state flags to be included in the proceedings, along with a lawn chair and a pair of scissors if they wish to participate in the dismantling of their flags before they are placed into the ceremonial fires.

The first 50 residents of the City of Dallas to present their old, worn flags for retirement will receive brand new U.S. flags, courtesy of Betsy Ross Flag Girls, Inc.
