Dallas Theater Center to partner with North Texas Food Bank in presentation of A Christmas Carol
DTC is once again collaborating with the organization to raise awareness and funding for its Close the Gap initiative.
Dallas Theater Center proudly announces Acting Company member Sean Hennigan in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge for the first time in this year’s production of the perennial holiday favorite A Christmas Carol. Directed and choreographed by DTC Associate Artist Joel Ferrell, Charles Dickens’ classic tale of an old miser visited by the Ghosts of Christmas comes to life at the beloved Kalita Humphreys Theater December 1-27. DTC will also partner with the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) for the second year in a row to contribute to the organization’s work that is especially vital this time of year.
“Dickens’ mix of passion, humor, and whimsy has made A Christmas Carol truly a seasonal celebration of generosity and community for more than 20 years at DTC,” said Ferrell, who is in his fifth year directing the show. “This year’s production is particularly exciting with the dynamic and talented Sean Hennigan as the new Scrooge.”
A former company member under past DTC Artistic Director Adrian Hall, Hennigan’s numerous stage and screen credits include Amadeus (DTC), In the Beginning (DTC), Friday Night Lights, 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, as well as work all over the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
After raising almost $40,000 for NTFB over the run of 2008’s A Christmas Carol, DTC is once again collaborating with the organization to raise awareness and funding for its Close the Gap initiative, which aims to raise the access to meals it annually provides from 37 million (2008) to 50 million by 2011.
The entirely local cast features DTC Acting Company Members Sean Hennigan as Scrooge; Chamblee Ferguson returning as Bob Cratchit; Matthew Gray (Fred); and Christina Vela (Mrs. Cratchit). Joining DTC Acting Company members are Lynn Blackburn (Belle); Deborah Brown; Jakie Cabe; Jim Crawford (Marley); Bob Hess; Natalie King (Ghost of Christmas Present); Bob Reed (Fezziwig); Joanna Schellenberg (Ghost of Christmas Past). Southern Methodist University students in this production include Beverly Johnson, Cheryl Lowber, and Olubajo Sonubi. And rounding out the cast are young actors Max Ary, Charlotte Bagwell, Christian Chiles, Halle Tomlinson, and Andrew Bonatti as Tiny Tim.
The design team for A Christmas Carol includes Bob Lavalle (scenic designer), Wade Laboissonniere (costume designer), Matthew Richards (lighting designer), Ryan Rumery (sound designer), and Lindy Heath Cabe (musical director).
All performances of A Christmas Carol will be held at the Kalita Humphreys Theater. Preview performances are December 1-3, with opening night on Friday, December 4 at 8 p.m. Performance times are Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.; and select Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Single ticket prices are $15-$76 and are available by calling the box office at 214.522.8499 or by visiting www.dallastheatercenter.org.
