TeCo Theatrical Productions to present Black Nativity
The play will run from December 10 through December 20 at the Bishop Arts Theater Center.
TeCo Theatrical Productions, Inc. will continue its 2009/2010 season with Black Nativity by Langston Hughes at the Bishop Arts Theater Center. It opens Thursday, December 10 and runs through Sunday, December 20. The production will be directed by Cynthia Navarette and feature New Arts Six, an ensemble of classical trained vocalists, musicians, and artists.
From its inception, the ensemble has produced original musical/theatrical works, utilizing Spirituals to musically record a page of history and folk tradition. A few of these original works are produced by prominent African-American playwrights including the late Rudy Eastman of Ft. Worth's Jubilee Theatre and Dr. Arthur L. Allen of Allen's Children’s Theatre and Goober Productions. The ensemble is equally inspired by Dallas author, journalist, and talented musician, Rosalyn M. Story, whose book And So I Sing, chronicles the stories of African-American women who achieved noted operatic careers despite artistic, social, and racial barriers of their day.
TeCo Theatrical Productions, Inc. is an award-winning, multicultural theatre company whose mission includes commitment to the success of developing artists by performing and educating … always entertaining on purpose. Founded in September 1993, TeCo Theatrical Productions, Inc. was chartered in Atlanta and moved to Dallas in January 2000. In 2005, TeCo began renovations on a 10,000 sq. ft. donated building located at 215 S. Tyler Street near the Bishop Arts District. Today, TeCo offers a full season of performances at the Bishop Arts Theater Center: Five shows a season and more than 60 performances each year. The newly refurbished building is a state-of-the-art facility that includes a 170 seat proscenium theatre with dressing rooms, executive offices, an art gallery, a learning laboratory, and an arts business incubator center. Seasonal performances offer cultural relevance, community outreach, and the sheer ability to deliver fresh theatrical experiences. This year, the agency will serve more than 15,000 children, adults, and aspiring thespians via our seasonal performances, jazz concerts, and student outreach programs.
Tickets for Black Nativity are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, reserved seating. Showtime starts at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday nights and 3 p.m. Sunday matinees. For ticket information, call 214-948-0716 or go to www.tecotheater.org.
