Dallas Art News hosts manic, mass transit tour of Dallas-Fort Worth museums

Feel like taking the train down to a leisurely stroll through a museum or two? How about a whirlwind tour through eight museums on at least three trains in Dallas and Fort Worth?

Twitter takes the blame once again for yet another wash of culture as people (or Tweeps, if you will) discover similar interests in the arts and public transportation, then use that knowledge to plan events surrounding said diversions. The Dallas Art News Museum Express Tour will visit eight Dallas and Fort Worth museums in one day using the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T), Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) as transportation between the institutions. Local tourists will visit the Amon Carter Museum, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Kimbell Art Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Meadows Museum, Nasher Sculpture Center and The Women’s Museum on Saturday, December 5.

We'll be hopping aboard to check it out (we're not ones to resist museums and public transportation). The Dallas Art News Museum Express Tour is designed to highlight the accessibility of the major cultural centers across Dallas and Fort Worth via mass transit. Dallas Art News hopes to be the first group to visit eight major museums in one day using only public transportation.

You can follow the whole adventure on Twitter. The environmentally-responsible tour is open to a dozen or more tourists for only $50 a head. Not bad, considering what you get: Starbucks coffee kick-off; Regional Pass for The T, TRE and DART; Dallas Art News Museum Express Tour t-shirt; a romp through eight Dallas and Fort Worth museums; box lunch provided by Corner Bakery Cafe; plus more snacks and goodie bags at the end of the day. There will also be a giveaway for a night at the Fairmont in the Dallas Arts District. Granted, this supermarket sweep only allows for 15-20 minutes at each respective museum, which could make for a very entertaining cattle drive of culture-mongers strategically disrupting the lazier museum-goers only interested in seeing one museum on December 5. Not us – we're going to all of them.
