The Texas Rangers avoided the ignominious sweep Thursday night, defeating the LA Angels 11-3 in sunny California. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and improved Texas to 86-73.

The Rangers finished the season series with the Angels at 12-7, but lost three games when it mattered most, eliminating themselves from playoff contention.

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood pitched a complete game, surrendering three runs, two of them earned, over nine solid innings. Millwood, who walked one and struck out ten, improved to 13-10 with a 3.67 ERA, the second-lowest ERA for a Rangers starting pitcher since the team moved to the Ballpark in Arlington in 1993.

There was plenty of offense to be had Thursday night, as all but one Ranger starter collected a hit and only two failed to drive in at least one run. Chris Davis went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two of which came off his 21st home run of the season in the top of the second inning.

Five other Rangers had multi-hit games, including Julio Borbon, Elvis Andrus, Ian Kinsler, Omar Vizquel, and Taylor Teagarden.
